MLK Jr. Day of Service | January 19
Habitat for Humanity was founded in response to a simple but urgent reality: access to safe, affordable housing has never been equal. In the mid-20th century, many people of color were systematically denied mortgages and homeownership opportunities through discriminatory lending practices. Habitat emerged from this context, rooted in the belief that housing should not be a privilege reserved for a few, but a foundation for stability, dignity, and opportunity for all.
On Monday, January 19, we honor that history by putting the work Habitat was created to do into action here in our community. Volunteers can serve in several ways, including working on a Habitat build site, supporting operations at the Helena ReStore, or participating in a Walk & Talk outreach effort in East Helena to help share information about Habitat’s Home Repair Program. Together, these opportunities allow volunteers to support safe, affordable housing while connecting directly with neighbors and strengthening our community.
